classic in the box
The Berlin dance theatre performance artist Bridge Markland is a virtuoso of roleplay and transformation. An artist who effortlessly crosses boundaries between underground and sophisticated art, between dance, theatre, performance, cabaret, childrens- and puppet theatre.
Her specialty are transgender performances in which the audience can experience the transformation from female to male and vice versa.
Since 2005 she occupies herself with themes of classic German theatre. She transforms these literary texts into modern collages with popular music and performs them as solo shows. Out came “schiller in the box” (German) about live and work of poet Friedrich Schiller, “faust in the box” (German) + “faust in the box” (english) after Goethe’s Faust 1, “krug in the box” (German) Heinrich von Kleist: “The broken jug ” for the generations pop, rock and popular song.
Since 2002 she has been working with the Australian/German children and young peoples theatre company Platypus Theatre, performing “Angstmän” in the play of the same name. In 2009 there will be a new adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland”.
In 2008 Bridge launched the project: höre ich tanz! / do I hear dance! site specific interactive dance and live music improvisation with international dancers and musicians - which continous in various formations.
